The bottleneck is no longer infrastructure. It's just content and relationships. Work that used to require an institution now requires a laptop.

The Challenge

Delivering theological training to leaders who can't wait for someone to fly in

Imagine being a church leader in a remote community, responsible for the spiritual direction of your congregation, with no access to formal training, no seminary nearby, no budget to travel and no one coming to you anytime soon. That reality belongs to the majority of pastors around the world, and it is a systemic gap that has been around for generations.

Vince Ward has spent years trying to do something about it. As Mission Consultant at RP Global Missions, his work is to train church planters and leaders within a confessional Reformed framework: people who want to start a church, or who are already leading one, but who have had no access to structured theological education.

The traditional answer was the only one anyone knew: fly a trainer overseas for a short intensive, or sponsor a student at a brick-and-mortar seminary. Both cost thousands of dollars per student. Both required leaders to leave their communities, sometimes for years. And when the trip was over, the training stopped.

Every trip trains a room. It doesn't lead to scalable training with an entire people group.

When he decided to find something better, he had a clear picture of what it needed to do: handle translation into many languages without requiring him to maintain separate content pipelines for each one, let him build courses quickly from his own vetted theological sources rather than authoring everything from scratch, give learners proper assessment and tracking, and be affordable for a small non-profit operating on a mission budget. He looked at Kajabi and LearnWorlds, and started building on Wix with Weglot. Each fell short on the same fundamental problem: they could display translated content through workarounds, but none of them could actually help produce it. Then a search comparing LMS platforms surfaced Coursebox.

Coursebox won decisively on the thing that mattered most. Native support for 100+ languages combined with AI course generation from uploaded documents. The others could display translated content with workarounds; Coursebox could actually help produce it.

The Solution

How one mission consultant built a global training curriculum with Claude and Coursebox

For Vince, Coursebox was the standout tool — the combination of multilingual capability and AI course generation was a solution for his conundrum. His workflow is now precise and, crucially, repeatable. He starts with open-source or public-domain reformed theological texts as the foundation. He uses Claude to work through the source and draft the curriculum in a fixed structure: 10 units of 5 lessons each, written in simplified English designed to survive translation. Once a unit is ready, he builds it in Coursebox, pasting the content in HTML format for clean, consistent formatting across every lesson. The Coursebox AI quiz generator builds the 10-question assessment at the end of each lesson. He reviews everything against the source, enrolls learners, and publishes.

The course-creation workflow:

  • 1. Select source text: Open-source or public-domain theological books become the anchor for all course content
  • 2. Draft with Claude: Upload the source to Claude; generate 10 units of 5 lessons each in simplified English, strictly constrained to source material
  • 3. Build in Coursebox: Manually create the course in Coursebox, pasting lessons in HTML format for consistent formatting across every lesson
  • 4. Generate quizzes: Use the Coursebox AI quiz generator to build a 10-question assessment at the end of each lesson
  • 5. Review and publish: Check all content against the source, set up learner enrollment, and publish
  • 6. Translate and release: Regenerate the completed course in the target language through the platform; a fluent speaker reviews theological terminology before release

The fixed structure was a design choice. A predictable format means every course translates the same way, every learner knows the rhythm and every lesson stays short enough to complete on a smartphone. After the five lessons in each unit, learners join a group session with Vince or a trained local leader, which is where the human conversation happens.

Vince started with ChatGPT for content generation, but over time moved to Claude. The reason was specific: Claude handles long theological source documents more reliably, holds the structure across a full 10-unit course without drifting, and is more consistent about staying within the source material. Today the two tools divide the work cleanly. Claude handles all content generation, and Coursebox handles everything else: hosting, quizzes, learner management, and delivery.

Every part of this (course creation, publishing, translation, administration) is managed by one person. With Coursebox, a non-profit mission consultant became the faculty, the translator, the registrar and the institution. That was never possible before.

The platform makes a one-person operation viable at global scale.

Results

40 courses, 6 countries, and a model that inverted the cost of theological training

Before Coursebox, a single 10-unit course written by hand with professional translation into even one language would have been a months-long project. A full multilingual curriculum at the scale Vince has built would have required a staff team, a custom-built platform, professional translators for every language, and a budget RP Global Training Network simply did not have. It would, as Vince puts it, have taken a bible college.

Today, a full 50-lesson course goes from source PDF to published on the platform in a matter of days of part-time work.

  • 40 courses published
  • 6 countries reached
  • 50-lesson course published in days

The people on the other end of that equation are church leaders in some of the hardest places in the world to deliver training. For many of them, this is the first structured theological education they have ever had access to in their own language. They did not have to apply for a visa, fundraise for a flight or leave the communities they are trying to serve. The training came to them.

Instead of spending thousands per student, we can train thousands for what one overseas trip used to cost.

What's Next

From a laptop to the world

Looking ahead, the vision is a full curriculum in every translatable language, with national leaders running their own training groups and Coursebox as the backbone of an ordered pathway from evangelism to equipped church planters. Ultimately, the goal is language-specific regional bible college offices overseeing decentralised, church-based training across entire regions.

And as the tools keep improving, so does what one person can build. Coursebox's native Claude integration (coming soon) will connect the two tools at the centre of Vince's workflow and close the last remaining manual step between an idea and a course in the hands of a learner on the other side of the world.

The barrier isn't money or code anymore. It's clarity about what you want to teach and making it available to the world.
