With more than 500 product managers through its courses, OPTVSN Journey needed assessment that could carry the fundamentals without spending its founder’s coaching hours on them.

The Challenge

Teaching product managers to define success for a system that answers “probably”

A product manager who has spent years writing requirements for conventional software knows exactly what finished looks like. The input produces the output, the test either passes or it does not, and the specification can say so in a single line. Put the same person in front of a model that returns a different answer to the same question on 2 consecutive runs, and the confidence disappears.

Aakanksha Sharma saw that moment happen again and again. She founded OPTVSN Journey to coach analysts, engineers and working product managers into AI product roles, drawing on years of building enterprise products inside Microsoft, EdgeVerve and Infosys. The people arriving in her sessions were not short on ability. They were short on a way to describe quality for something probabilistic. “They were excellent at building deterministic software with clear inputs and outputs, but struggled when AI systems produced probabilistic answers,” she says.

Learning and assessment depended on live coaching and manual reviews, which worked while the numbers were small. As more product managers came through, the same foundational concepts had to be explained again in every cohort, and the hours that should have gone into judgement went into repetition instead.

When the team looked for a platform, the requirements were specific:

  • Structured learning and automated assessments in one place, so knowledge checks did not depend on a human marking them
  • Progress tracking across a growing number of learners
  • A learner experience good enough that automation did not cost engagement

As learner numbers grew, repeating foundational concepts became inefficient. We wanted a platform that could automate reinforcement so our coaching time could focus on judgement, decision-making and product thinking.

The Solution

Turning assessment itself into the lesson the course is teaching

Becoming an AI PM is an 8-session bootcamp built on Coursebox around a 5-step arc the team describes as Why, What, How, Build and Ship. Learners start with AI opportunity scoring and ROI modelling, move through LLM mechanics, RAG and agent workflows, then into the work that decides whether an AI product survives contact with a real organisation: bias audits, AI PRDs, ML sprint plans, deployment and go-to-market strategy.

No coding is required, and nobody leaves with theory alone. Every learner builds a working AI chatbot using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Google AI Studio, and finishes with a portfolio-ready capstone they can put in front of a hiring manager.

Coursebox carries the work between the live sessions. Every module closes with quizzes and auto-graded assignments, and the quizzes are set to require 100% to pass. A learner who has not understood the foundations cannot move forward, which means the live hours can be spent somewhere harder.

The threshold does something else that is easy to miss. The discipline the course exists to teach is the discipline of defining what good looks like before anything gets built, and the assessment mechanic puts learners inside that discipline module by module rather than describing it to them.

With content creation, assessment management and learner administration streamlined inside the platform, the team’s hours moved back to improving course quality rather than managing delivery workflows.

Requiring 100% quiz completion ensures every learner masters the essentials before progressing. That shift means coaching sessions focus on solving complex product problems instead of revisiting basic concepts.

Results

500+ product managers through 5 courses, and coaching hours spent on judgement

Over 500 product managers have now come through OPTVSN Journey’s 5 courses in roughly 18 months, a volume that manual review could not have kept up with. Aakanksha holds a 5.0 coaching rating and a Top 0.1% Expert ranking on Topmate, and Becoming an AI PM was named Coursebox’s first ever Creator of the Month.

What learners report back is less about knowledge and more about standing. They finish with a product they built themselves, a structured case study explaining the decisions behind it, and the vocabulary to defend both. “The biggest feedback is confidence. Learners leave with a tangible AI product, a structured product case study and practical experience that helps them have stronger conversations with hiring managers and product leaders,” she says.

For the team, the recognition confirmed a conviction they had built the whole curriculum on, which is that project-based learning produces career outcomes that lectures do not.

What’s Next

The plan from here is more of the same discipline applied to a wider portfolio. OPTVSN Journey is building out further applied AI courses with deeper product-building experiences and industry-relevant capstones, aimed at professionals moving into the next generation of AI product roles.

Real transformation happens through doing, not watching. Learners build AI products, write AI PRDs, complete assessments and finish with a portfolio project. Combining structured content with practical application is what changes behaviour.
